Yahoo! News
Seriously, yahoo news has some of the worst articles on its front page day after day but I still read it, especially when I'm bored. The main things I read all happen to be generally titled something like this: The Best 5 (fill in the blank i.e. buffalo wings in America, places to visit, ice cream stores in America, etc) , The Worst Fast Foods in America, Top 10 (fill in the blank i.e. scenic places, exercise tips, places that will disappear by 2080, etc), and any stupid article talking about the Kardashians.
Now let's take a quick look at the articles on the front page that I read earlier today:
8 fattiest cities in the U.S.
Kim K's hubby reacts to rumor
America's best hot wings
Top tech gifts under $100
Top 10 searches of 2011
I really don't know why I waste time reading these things, but it's starting to become a habit. Of course, sometimes there are a few slightly better articles that are somewhat applicable to my life:
Poison found again in juice (Arsenic, so don't drink too much juice!)
Governors petition for medical pot (not personally applicable, but maybe in the future if and when I become a doctor)
Odd reason for San Jose bomb scare (uh...don't wear a mask and a heavy looking vest into the post office to mail an oddly shaped package...)
Good thing I also read the Times to counter the (mostly) dumb things I'm reading on Yahoo. Except there was one extremely ridiculous thing I read on the Opinion pages of the Times recently called The U.S. should Ditch Taiwan. Paul Kane, a former international security fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School, wrote that the U.S. should sell Taiwan to China in order to write off its debt. Anyways, without going into detail, basically this was just ridiculous and obviously never going to happen.

THANKSGIVING!
Here comes probably my favorite holiday of the year. Thanksgiving is the greatest. I just ordered our turkey (from Boston Market) today. This year, I'm going to be making our mashed potatoes, so I hope it turns out good. My dad is also home for the holidays!

A few things that the old people I volunteer with yesterday told me about. I don’t know whether to be happy or sad. I do, however, really admire their ability to talk about these things and still laugh and joke around. They’re so cute.
“Back when I was 84…….”
“My great granddaughter was just born 2 weeks ago…..”
“Can you believe it? (Insert 3 names) all passed away last week….”
“When you get to be our age, something’s bound to kill you.”
“This man pushed a cart into my hip and I had to get hip surgery right away the next morning.”
“(Insert name) comes here all the time, she’s been volunteering for like a hundred years like me and they just keep people like us around for fun.”

Forgetting Things
I hate it when I clearly know that I have to buy three things from a store and then when I need to go buy it, I only remember two. This happened to me before I went to Target today so I paced and walked around my house until I remembered that I had to buy HALLOWEEN CANDY. I hope a lot of cute little kids come by my house for candy this year but unfortunately most of the kids around my house are all already pretty old now.
Anyways, random thing I remembered. Every day I go to work, I see the SAME middle school asian kid with glasses dragging his roller backpack running to Miller ALWAYS LATE. So unless school starts after 7:35, this kid is, I swear, always late. It's so funny and reminds me of when Ingrid, Grace, and I were always running to school late during middle school. Good times.
Next topic. Amy showed me some funny pictures today. This past week was apparently homecoming at my old high school Lynbrook and I don't know what spurred this sudden craziness from our old teachers, but they thought it was fun to go planking around the school. It's so cool seeing our teachers having fun. They're so cute and makes me want to teach at Lynbrook. hahaha, just kidding, but only kind of.

There are some really good things about volunteering at the hospital
1. I realize that I HAVE TO get one of those white doctor coats. After seeing so many doctors walk around the hospital wearing those cool white coats, I realize that I need one and I don't care how much studying I have to do or how little sleep I get in the near future. I just need one.
2. Talking to old people. I volunteer with a lot of people age 60 and over. They are so awesome and so cute. They also talk a lot and like to gossip. And they're also really nice to me. Most of these people really really enjoy volunteering and helping out and honestly, they have no reason to volunteer except the fact that they really want to so I feel like many of them are so genuine and such nice people.
3. There are also a few pretty cool students around my age which nicely balances out talking to old people and then talking to young people.
4. Seeing hundreds of kids, mostly babies and age 5 and younger ones running around. They are by far the cutest things ever. How can people not like kids?
Then, there are also some kind of not so good things
1. Seeing old people (patients) lying in the hospital bed, hooked onto 3 machines, on a ventilator, and etc. It's just really sad.....I hate seeing people look so helpless and being able to do nothing about it.
2. Giving directions. The first day, I don't know how many times I said, walk down this hall and then make a right, I mean left. Or Turn left, oh yea, no I mean right. It was just.......uck. Good thing I learned my way around the offices pretty well and can now give awesome directions!
3. Standing up for a long period of time. I think I didn't sit for 5 hours straight. It was really not the greatest feeling.
But overall, I think I love volunteering! It's a lot of fun being able to help out. I can't wait until I get to play more with the kids!
